Using Will Writers to generate leads and cash

Using Will Writers to generate leads and cash

All of you are required to ask clients if they have made a Will (but not if it has been signed or is up to date or has been invalidated by marriage, nor if they have LPAs in place!)

Why not help you clients complete their protection by getting PROFESSIONAL advice? Most Will writers will slip you a few bob, and it can be a useful way of generating referrals.

But don't use amateur Will writers - the Will writing field is a vast and shark infested ocean, inhabited by many people who are not even aware that they are - bluntly - ignorant and dangerous.

You can DIY if you want, but make sure you REALLY understand what you are doing as the potential liabilities will follow you beyond the grave, and just keeping up to date will take you at least 5% of you working life.

I endorse what Steve1 has posted. There are great opportunities from working with a willwriter but the industry is unregulated so be sure whoever you choose to work with is at least a member of the Society of Will Writers (SOWW) or the Institute of Professional Will writers (IPW). Best of all choose one who has full indemnity insurance and a rigorous regime of compliance and CPD. You can be sure you have an expert on your side no matter where in the country you are.

Hi Steve

I am a mortgage broker and I was wondering how you would define a good will writing outfit?

I am now signed off to take will instruction and think that I have hooked up with a good company! But how can you tell!

Also I find that solicitors are very scathing of purely Will Companies is this just simply down to them feeling that their turf is being moved in on or are there things to be aware of?

The need to take care in chosing which Will writer you introduce your clients too cannot be over emphasied. There is is no overall regulation of Will writers, so their competence and legal protection can be very suspect. Solictors are always to be recommended but take care as competence in Will writing too varies in that profession.

I recommend INTERFACE WILLs to you (formerly Sovereign Wills & Probate).

I refer to my earlier posting. You need to do your homework as there are good and bad in every profession. I am a Will Writer that current counts other members of the legal profession solicitors/barrister as clients of mine. BTW with regard to Tony's post I didn't think we were supposed to be advertising on here.

Steve great idea, but look around we currently get 28 booked and confirmed appointments per month from our will company. and we can then sell any of our other services to the clients, and we also get paid a commission for the will. so dont give away those valuable clients keep them inhouse and keep the activity. hope this helps.
