Usually chatrooms are set up for just that. So here's a topic in which I expect very few posts but which is, today, close to my broken heart.

"Why broken?" I hear you ask.

I shall explain briefly:

I am a diehard fan of the Montreal Canadiens, one of the 'original six' teams in the National Hockey League in North America.

There have been, in the team's long and glorious history, two team Captains that have served just shy of ten years as Captain, Jean Béliveau and Saku Koivu.

Jean Béliveau retired in 1971, still wearing the team colours.

Saku Koivu is one of life's true sporting gentlemen and an inspirational character. I discovered this morning that he will not be returning to the team for the 2009/10 season.

Gutted.

Think yourself lucky I go to see our local team the "Whitley Warriors". Many's the cold Sunday night we've sat around the rink watching the Warriors get thumped by the Fyffe f-----s or the Whitehaven w-----s, as we call them.

Great fun though for all ages and the only sport I've ever attended where most of us hardly minded getting beat we were having such a good time.
